The 1990 Gay Games in Vancouver were an inspiring and culture-shifting event in the history of LGBTQ2S+ culture and visibility. That Vancouver Summer is a fiction which takes place in the midst of an event which is reconstructed with careful detail by an author who was there. This is a story of self-discovery and romance for young adult readers today -- but it will also engage adult readers of historical fiction, sports fiction, LGBTQ2S+ fiction, and romance. Tom, a teen struggling to understand his sexual identity, flees Toronto for a summer of freedom in Vancouver, where something exciting is about to happen: the Gay Games. Living with his “out” Uncle Fred, Tom experiences a new world where being your true self is freeing and fun. He falls in with teen Dwayne, who falls for him, and Gina, a lesbian getting over a relationship with a popular singer. As the Games wrap, Tom has to decide whether to return home back to a closeted life and a father who doesn’t understand, or to make a new life in Vancouver. The story plays out against the backdrop of the Games, populated with the important organizers and cultural figures who were prominent in this landmark event. This novel is a tribute to the spirit of courage and unity that the Games represented at a time when being openly gay and proud was a radical stance.

Lori Block and her best friend Sophia are dedicated to their Fourth-Grade basketball team, despite being relegated to “the 5th quarter,” an extra period before the “real” game starts, where the not-so-good kids play, and the points don’t count. That doesn’t matter to Lori though, because Basketball is a place where working hard and getting better gives her hints of self-confidence. At school, she is awkward and unsure, and at home Lori’s parents are consumed by her mother’s bid for local government. With athletic promise and a dogged determination to keep improving, Lori pursues her passion while navigating awkward social dynamics, her own expectations and her first overnight away from home. Can she find her confidence in school, at home, and on the court?

An endearing story of love and grief as one girl follows the clues in a scavenger hunt left behind by her best friend, perfect for fans of Bridge to Terabithia and Nine, Ten. WHEN YOU'VE LOST WHAT MATTERS MOST, HOW DO YOU FIND YOUR WAY BACK HOME? Joy Fonseca is dreading her 13th birthday, dreading being reminded again about her best friend Lukas's senseless death on this day, one year ago -- and dreading the fact he may have heard what she accidentally blurted to him the night before. Or maybe she's more worried he didn't hear. Eitherway, she's decided: she's going to finally open the first clue to their annual birthday scavenger hunt Lukas left for her the morning he died, hoping the rest of the clues are still out there. If they are, they might lead Joy to whatever last words Lukas wrote, and toward understanding how to grab onto the future that is meant to be hers.

A powerful novel about friendship, basketball, and one teen's mission to create a better life for his family in the tradition of Jason Reynolds and Walter Dean Myers, from National Book Award Finalist Randy Ribay. "Belongs on the shelf alongside contemporary heavy-hitters like Angie Thomas's The Hate U Give, Brendan Kiely and Jason Reynolds's All-American Boys, and Nic Stone's Dear Martin." --School Library Journal, starred review Bunny and Nasir have been best friends forever, but when Bunny accepts an athletic scholarship across town, Nasir feels betrayed. While Bunny tries to fit in with his new, privileged peers, Nasir spends more time with his cousin, Wallace, who is being evicted. Nasir can't help but wonder why the neighborhood is falling over itself to help Bunny when Wallace is in trouble. When Wallace makes a bet against Bunny, Nasir is faced with an impossible decision--maybe a dangerous one. Told from alternating perspectives, After the Shot Drops is a heart-pounding story about the responsibilities of great talent and the importance of compassion.

Playing and watching sports has been a big part of Evanka Osmak's life since she was a kid. Growing up in Oakville, Ontario with an older sister and brother there was always a game to be played or a competition to join. She credits her early years playing sports for giving her great friends, exciting adventures and life long skills. She may not have always been the star on the team, but being part of a team was just as rewarding. Evanka turned her passion of sports into a dream job working for Canada's national sports network, Sportsnet. Today she has two young boys and a wonderful husband. Megan's art career began in her early school days in Singapore, where she was often caught doodling in her textbook during class. She went on to design costumes, paint backdrops, and sketch endlessly. Currently, she is a student at Pratt Institute of Design in New York City, where she continues to draw for her own enjoyment - and now for the enjoyment of others.
